The 5th Ward, one of Houston’s most historic neighborhoods, is revitalizing with new developments and amenities. It is important to improve the well-being of all residents. The neighborhood is to keep up the momentum of community development that doesn’t displace the most vulnerable community members.

The collaboration includes Pleasant Hill Ministries, Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corporation, Houston Habitat for Humanity, Legacy Community Health, and the Berg & Androphy law firm.

The goal is to build on the momentum of growth and revitalization in 5th Ward and to address unmet needs. Five institutions came together to launch a new collaborative entity, the Center for Urban Transformation.

The 5th Ward, while it has many assets, also has systemic problems that are rooted in inequitable access to resources, generational poverty, and environmental blight – all of which are impediments to creating a community of choice where people enjoy living, working, and playing.
